30 1. First year B.Tech: A pass in 10+2 examination (with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics)
2. Direct second year: SSC with Diploma in Engineering or Technology or Bachelor of Science or its equivalent from a recognized institute.

24 1. Candidates passing with B. Tech. in Food Science/ Food Technology/ Food Engineering/ Agricultural Engineering/ Biotechnology/ Chemical Technology)
About Agricultural Engineering

Agricultural Engineering is basically an area of engineering concerned with the applications of knowledge and principles of all the engineering branches in the field of agriculture for the design, construction and improvement of farming equipment & machinery, structures, processes to mitigate the problems related with agriculture and food processing. Agricultural engineering combines the disciplines of mechanical, civil, electrical, electronics, computer science and chemical engineering with a basic understanding of biological sciences and agricultural practices. Agricultural Engineering has mandate to focus its research on development of technologies/precision equipment in the area of farm machinery and power engineering, precision farming, post-harvest engineering, protected cultivation and renewable energy. These researches include designing improved tools to work the soil and harvest the crops, design & development of water resources for agriculture and systems for irrigating and draining the land wherever necessary. This field has bright prospects of job opportunities across the globe where an agricultural engineer can work in the sectors of farm machinery, soil & water conservation, processing, packaging, transporting, and distributing the food and fiber products.

The Department of Agricultural Engineering was established way back in the year 2001 by G. S. Mandal’s Maharashtra Institute of Technology, Aurangabad. The department is committed to focus on bringing excellence in teaching-learning and research-development activities through judicious utilization of vast infrastructural facilities in the form of laboratories, class rooms, research centre and computing facilities available. The department own a centre of excellence in the form of ISO and OHSAS certified ‘Centre for Analytical Research and Studies (CARS)’ which undertakes research and consultancy services in agriculture, food pharmaceuticals, environment and other allied sectors. The soil and water testing laboratory of this department in CARS has approval and recognition from Government of Maharashtra for testing soil and water samples. The Government sanctioned mobile soil and water testing laboratory of this department is known to offer its services at the doorstep of farmers through laboratory to land concept. At present department of Agricultural Engineering offers undergraduate course in Agricultural Engineering and postgraduate course in Food Processing Technology.

B. Tech. (Agricultural Engineering) is a four year degree course approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. In this four year degree programme the students go through following major divisions (modules) of this discipline :

  •   Farm Machinery & Power Engineering
  •   Agricultural Process Engineering
  •   Soil & Water Conservation Engineering
  •   Irrigation & Drainage Engineering

Besides, these major divisions, students also go through the following minor module of this disciplines :

  •   Renewable Energy Sources
  •   Basic Sciences & Computer Technology
  •   General Agriculture such as Agronomy, Horticulture, Soil Science and Animal Husbandry

Besides the advanced infrastructure and facilities available with the department to meet out the objectives of these disciplines, department always takes efforts to arrange study tours, field and industrial visits and training programmes for students so that they should become practical ‘Agroneers’ and ‘Agropreneurs’.

Agricultural Engineering Department is striving hard towards goal to achieve excellence in agricultural engineering education in order to develop professionally competent and socially committed engineers to mitigate the continuously rising needs of agriculture and food fraternity. Agricultural Engineering Department of MIT is one of its kinds in Maharashtra State offering B. Tech. in Agricultural Engineering and M. Tech. in Food Processing Technology as AICTE and DTE approved courses. We have highly qualified, experienced and specialized faculty, spacious laboratories with high end modern instruments equipped for bringing excellence in research and innovation. We undertake rigorous and intensive integrated teaching methods, interaction with experts, industry and field visits and make students constantly aware about the present trends and future challenges in the field of agriculture and food processing. We are sure that our engineers will emerge as assets not only to this department and organization they belong but also to the country and society, at large.

I am confident that our efforts directed towards imparting quality education and training in the field of agricultural engineering and food processing will help to create ready to use engineers for tomorrow’s needs to take up emerging technological and social challenges.     Program Educational Objectives
    • PEO 1: Graduates will demonstrate knowledge of innovative technologies needed for the practice of agricultural engineering
    • PEO 2: Graduates will develop skills necessary to design the process to evaluate and implement problem solutions of agriculture.
    • PEO 3: Graduates will develop continuous professional and technical growth so as to be licensed as a professional engineer and successful leader
    • PEO 4: Graduates will be capable of addressing issues of ethical and social impact of engineering practice.
    Program Specific Outcomes
    • PSO 1 : Use his/her expertise in planning the judicious utilization of natural recourses and their management through advanced soil and water conservation techniques and various irrigation methods with the skill of data interpretation.
    • PSO 2 : Design and develop of farm implement and stead with economically feasible, agro and energy technologies for sustainable agriculture.
    • PSO 3 : Apply the comprehensive knowledge of engineering properties of agricultural produce for upgrading the unit operation resulting in effective value addition and quality control.
