Department Of Agricultural Engineering

Home

MIT is a group of Engineering, Technology and Architecture Institutions offering more than 12 degree courses in Engineering and Technology under Gramaudyogik Shikshan Mandal, Aurangabad. In which Agricultural Engineering Branch is started since 2001 with intake capacity of 30.

Agricultural Engineering

Agricultural Engineering is basically the application of all the Engineering branches in the field of agriculture to solve various problems related with Farm mechanization, productivity and development. A discipline concerned with solving the engineering problems of providing food and fiber for the people of the world. These problems include designing improved tools to work the soil and harvest the crops, as well as developing water supplies for agriculture and systems for irrigating and draining the land where necessary. Agricultural engineers design farmsteads in which to house animals or store grains. They also work on problems of processing, packaging, transporting, and distributing the food and fiber products. Agricultural engineering combines the disciplines of mechanical, civil, electrical, and chemical engineering with a basic understanding of biological sciences and agricultural practices. Some agricultural engineers work directly with farmers. Most, however, work with the companies that manufacture and supply equipment, feeds, fertilizers, and pesticides. Others work for companies that provide services to farmers, such as developing irrigation and drainage systems or erecting buildings and facilities.

Since last 25 years, G. S. Mandal has been working in the field of Education, Research and Extension. From 2001 Mandal has started Department of Agricultural Engineering under Maharashtra Institute of Technology with other (more than five) branches of B. Tech. in engineering with well qualified staff members.

B. Tech. (Agricultural Engineering), a four year degree course is approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi and affiliated to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (Dr. BAMU) Aurangabad. In this four Year Degree course the student should go through following Major divisions of discipline:

  •   Agricultural Process Engineering
  •   Farm Machinery & Power Engineering
  •   Soil & Water Conservation Engineering
  •   Irrigation & Drainage Engineering

With these Major divisions, one should also go through following minor divisions:

  •   Farm Structures
  •   Electrical & other Energy sources
  •   Basic sciences & computer Technology
  •   General Agriculture such as Agronomy, Horticulture, Soil Science, Animal Husbandry & dairy Science etc.

With the advanced knowledge of these divisions, Department always arrange various study tours and training programme for students so that they should be practical 'Agroneers'.
